Background

Karen RookwoodHaving trained as a doctor in the 1970’s, I worked in the NHS for many years, largely in the mental health sector and latterly in general practice. Since the late 80’s I have worked in the fields of psychotherapy and organisational consultancy, and have extensive experience in training and group work. I was a founder member, and for 20 years one of the directors, of Edinburgh Gestalt Institute, which delivers training in Gestalt Psychotherapy and related subjects.

I have a special interest in working with and training ‘people who work with people’ and have developed a particular focus on ‘family-sized’ teams. Over the last 15 years I have evolved a number of long-standing facilitated peer groups for GPs. These have become places of invaluable learning and support for those who attend and are increasingly influential for the practices in which they work.
